What is Rocket Mixer?

Founded by Andrea Garau, Rocket Mixer is a community of startup founders and entrepreneurs built around highly curated networking experiences across New York City and San Francisco.

During the last NY Tech Week in June, Rocket Mixer received a public shoutout from a16z, the official organizers of Tech Week, naming Rocket Mixer among the “serious rooms to be in,” alongside events hosted by companies such as IBM, Fenwick & West, NVIDIA, and PwC.

Do I need a team before I board?

No. We will form the teams at the train station in New York during a networking session before boarding the train. That’s why we are not accepting pre-formed groups.

What do I build?

We will unveil the hackathon theme on board once the teams have been formed. Everyone will find out at the same time, so no one arrives with a three-week head start.

Is there really wifi the whole way?

Not continuously. Wi-Fi is available on much of the journey, but there will be stretches with limited or no connectivity. That’s why the hackathon is designed to support offline work.

Is the hackathon free to participate in?

If selected, you’ll join the complete hackathon experience at no cost. The organizers will cover the train ticket to San Francisco, meals throughout the journey, one night of accommodation in San Francisco after arrival, and participation in the Demo Day. Participants will only be responsible for arranging and covering their return travel after Demo Day, whether by train, plane, or any other means.

Who is in the room at the showcase?

Around 100+ curated founders, operators and industry people, a panel of investors who write first cheques, and press. Partners attend; associates do not attend alone.

What if my idea changes on day three?

Then it changes on day three. The only thing that ships is what you demo in San Francisco. But it needs to be a working prototype, so we recommend sticking with the same idea and continuing to build on it throughout the journey.
